Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant on Atlantic Avenue

First things first, y'all are going to have to forgive me because I was so busy enjoying my food that I forgot to take pictures. As someone who usually knows better, that's probably the highest compliment I can give a restaurant—AND nowadays everybody photographs their food before they eat it. This Bayou girl from Houston, Texas was too busy getting her life. Whenever I travel, I make it my mission to hunt down good Caribbean food. My friend who lives in Brooklyn actually discouraged me from trying Golden Krust and let me tell you, my decision paid off! I ordered the brown stew chicken with rice and peas, steamed vegetables, and extra gravy. Babyyyy! From the very first bite, I knew I had made the right choice. That chicken was so tender it practically slid off the fork on its own. It was packed with flavor, fresh, and cooked to perfection. And that extra gravy? The gravy tied everything together perfectly and took an already delicious meal to another level. Listen, The rice and peas soaked it up beautifully. Every bite was better than the last Now for the customer service. When I walked in, the staff looked past me like I was invisible standing in camouflage in the Louisiana marsh. Nobody acknowledged me. It wasn't until another customer walked in and asked a guy coming out of the kitchen, "Are you gonna help me?" that things finally started moving. But here's the thing: the food was so good I almost forgave them Almost. Will I be back on my next trip to NYC? You better believe it.
