About Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant

Known for their family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, hard dough bread, and carrot cake (among many more delectable items).
For years since moving south I've been on the hunt for authentic Jamaican food; years! I came up from Charlotte this weekend and after going over reviews settled on the Golden Krust. I was a little skeptical because its a chain but thought surely since there items are selling in the grocery store this would be good. Long story short, no its not. I ordered the stew chicken small plate and my hubby ordered the oxtails. The portion sizes were great and the staff friendly enough but as far as the food; everything was bland with the same flavor. The stew chicken taste like browning and the cabbage had no seasoning. The oxtails again no flavor. I am so convinced that the reviews that say these places are good is because NC is so far removed from what authentic Jamaican food is that they think these American soul food flavors are what its supposed to taste like. Its not. I'm once again disappointed. I hate that I either have to go to Atlanta or back up north just to get authentic Jamaican food.
I truly enjoyed this restaurant. The food was good that I ordered. My son was not a big fan of their fried chicken. We will revisit this location. The desert was not bad. Their macaroni and cheese took me home. The spinach rice was amazing. The chocolate cake was not as moist as I was expecting. The photo was of a small plate.
Went in today with my son in law and had never tried their food before and so i decided to get the jerk chicken patty to go. I was very surprised and disappointed that inside the patty was not one bit of chicken. Just a black bean paste. If we were not on the highway at the time we would have returned to the restaurant and demanded my money back. What they are doing by ripping customers off like that is, they lose me as a customer and then i will tell all my family and friends too. So they end up losing many potential customers. All because they decided to save a little money by skipping on the chicken part of the patty.
