About Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant
A fast-casual takeout or dine-in Caribbean & Jamaican restaurant, conveniently situated on the corner of Albany Avenue and Woodland Street in Hartford near Keney Park. Known for their family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian and beyond meat alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, hard dough bread, and carrot cake (among many more delectable items).
I have ordered Golden Crust cocktail patties before, and my guest and I enjoyed them. The crust had the right amount of dough and was flaky, with an adequate amount of meat. Recently, I ordered four dozen cocktail patties (two dozen spinach and two dozen chicken) for an event, and because of the quality, I was unable to serve the chicken patties and had to discard them. The dough was extremely thick and plasticky, as if a child was practising making dough and made it wrong. The amount of chicken placed in these thick doughs (it seemed like 8 layers of stiff dough) was no more than a teaspoon (and I am not exaggerating); it was basically eating only a thick blob of dough with flakes of the outer layer. They were not even the usual half-circle shape; they were more squarish with a little peak on one side. However, my main concern was the quality and taste. A waste of my time and money. Grossly disappointed.
